The entire
subject astrology, if we look in indian history actually belongs to the subect
jyotishshastra. The word jyotisha is defined as :-
"Dhyotititi yat tat jyotihi jyotisham"
Thus the astrology has relation with the subject astronomy. If we want to find out the
origin of astrology then we must look into the subject Astronomy.and to decide the time
period it needs to have a reference about vedic period.
The time period of the vedic culture is 4000 B.C. and it is generaly accepted. It is
obviously found that the vedic people were used to keep themselves in connection with the
cultivation work. The husbundry and sacrifice were the main task. The vedic people were
also related with asthetic imagination it shows their interest about the sky. For the
purpose of the work regarding the cultivation naturally they needed knowledge about rainy
seasons, weather etc.
"Shatam jiva sharado vardhamanah satm Hemantachhatmuva shatan"
In this MANTRA the sense of seosons is obvious.Shri B.G.Tilak says "from the base of
the rugveda samhita it concludes that shakabda purve 3000 vasant sampat was in mrugashirsh
naxatra." It can be conform through India,Iran,Greece countries anciant books. Thus the learned personalities
have done work to decide time period by vedic MANTRA.world famous one of the great
travelor Alberuni wrote rainy season at sindha area begins in mrugashirsha.
Astrology is nothing without astronomy. The knowledge about the subject of astronomy is
essential for the purpose to decide time of season. Macdonel says "No work
representing astronomy has survived from the vedic period" He says about Vedangas the
whole body of vedic works composed in sutra style is according to indian traditional view
divided in to six classes called vedangas (members of the veda). These siksoar phonetics,
chhandas or metre, vyakarana or grammer, nirukta or etimology, kalpa or religious practice
and jyotisa or astronomy.
What is a Horoscope :
A chart depicting the position of planets as seen from earth at the time of an
individual's birth is called a `Horoscope,' or `kundli' in Hindi.
The earth moves from west to east and hence the Sun appears to move from east to west. The
360 degree circle of the zodiac is divided into 12 parts of 30 degrees each called the
zodiac signs. According to the motion of rotation of the earth the Sun appears to cover a
distance of one degree of the zodiac in each day. Hence it takes 360 days or a year for
the Sun to cover the 12 zodiac signs in 12 months. In a Horoscope (Kundli) The zodiac
signs are in the sequence of Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer and so forth, with the last
sign as Pisces.
